Healthy food on the sly: How to get your child to boost his immunity by eating healthy

Wits. Creativity. Stealth. No, these are not the requirements for some reality show. These are the qualities you need to feed your child healthy food without giving him room to say no.

Healthy-food-on-the-sly.jpgYour child's immunity foundation needs a lot of support while he is young. But if feeding him immunity-boosting food like fruits and vegetables is met with violent refusal, you'll need to find new ways about it. Here are some ideas to slowly inject nutritious food into his diet:

  • Get creative in preparing veggies and fruits. Cut out shapes, carve out faces, or slice alphabets out of your carrots, apples or potatoes. Better yet, prepare your food with your child. Children are more likely to eat food they helped make.
  • Fill up your child's favorite thermos, jug or tall glass with water or fresh juices. Make ice cubes with fruits inside. Or, why not have a “bottom's up” contest? Drinking at least 1.5 liters of water or fresh fruit juices a day helps cleanse toxins from the body.
  • Have a sandwich making contest at home. Or, have a party themed “Veggielicious”!
  • Eat out—go grilling in your backyard! But instead of pork or beef, grill fish. Fish is rich in omega 3 that helps boost the immune system.
  • Garlic is also a great natural antibiotic. Juice raw garlic cloves and mix the juice in fruit juices, steamed vegetables, or any food that your child enjoys.
  • Make seeds and nuts available for your kid to snack on. Place them in colorful plastic boxes or bags and insert them in your child's lunch box. You may also grind the seeds and sprinkle the powder on his dishes. Seeds and nuts, such as flaxseed or linseed, pumpkin seeds, peanuts, and walnuts, are great sources of essential fatty acids (EFA). These help strengthen the immune system and reduce irritation or swelling in the respiratory tract.

It's all about turning eating healthy to a fun and enjoyable experience. So do whatever it takes to give him that solid immunity foundation!
